Scales

As of EigenD 1.0.3 it's possible to define your own scales on the Eigenharp without the EigenD software.

Instructions

This is done by editing the file in ~/Library/Eigenlabs/Scale Manager/User Scales.txt in a text editor (like TextEdit). Changes to this file are only picked up when EigenD is restarted.

The format is very simply:

[name of your new scale]
; a comment if you want one
intervals=0 1 2 3 4 5
 7 8 9 10 11 12
  • The first line give a name to your scale, which will be accessible at the bottom of the scale browser.
  • The second line is optional and will be interpreted as a comment when it's prefixed with a semicolon.
  • The third line has to start with <tcode>intervals=</code>, which is followed by values that represent the number of semitones from the tonic of the active scale. These values can be fraction, for microtonal tuning, can be negative and can be as large as you like (larger than 12, which is an octave)
  • The fourth line is optional and needs to start with a space or a tab to be able to continue the intervals specification. If this is not the case, it will not be considered as the next series of intervals in the scale.

Scale library

Below is a collection of user contributed scales that you can simply copy and paste into the ~/Library/Eigenlabs/Scale Manager/User Scales.txt file to use them.
